Rain, Rain, What a Day…
These photos were all captured on a weekend backpacking trip near Steamboat Springs, CO and it was a trip for the books. One thing we don’t get a lot of in Colorado is rain, but this trip had LOADS of it. When we started the hike, everything was wet from rainfall the night before and while we were hiking, we got hailed on (pea to paintball size) for two straight hours. The rain continued throughout the day and when we set up our tents for the night, everyone in the party was cold, wet and ready to curl up in sleeping bags to recover from a gnarly day in the mountains. The thrill of the wet day on trail was not over though, overnight we heard a large landslide nearby as the moisture saturated ground gave way to gravity and plunged boulders into the nearby lake. Needless to say, this was one of the soggiest backpacking trips I’ve been on; for sure the wettest since I moved to Colorado.
Staci will say she looks like a rag-a-muffin in these photos, but I think that’s just part of the story…
